Hawaii Kendo Federation 1 Kyu and Dan examination is on Sunday, June 5th at Kaimuki

Gym from 8:30AM. From our dojo Aimi Imagawa and Enaj Alabanza will take the

examination. As you know the higher the dan you are taking, the harder the criteria of

passing. Do not be discouraged too much if you do not pass. Keep on trying. If you

are expecting to take an examination in the future, come and observe procedures.

Hidaka Hisamitsu Sensei from Kurume, Kyushu, will come to Hawaii from June 9th

through 13th with 7 other 7 Dan Senseis. They will visit Hawaii Daijingu Dojo on

Friday, June 10th and Kaimuki Honbu Dojo on Sunday, June 12th. Be there and practice.

Our Club will have Midyear party on Wednesday, June 15th. We will start earlier at

6:30PM and end by 7:30PM and will have potluck party. Be there even if you have not

been coming to practice lately. Keeping up with friends is an important kendo goal.

We will cancel our practice on Wednesday, June 22nd. Wahiawa Hongwanji Mission

will have Bon Dance on Friday and Saturday, June 24th and 25th. They need the hall for

preparation. They are asking for volunteers to help Bon Dance. Check with Rev. Kojun

Hashimoto if you can be a volunteer.

Mr. Kevin Kamita is taking some children to Japan for training. They will join regular

practices of Tohkyo Budokan in Ohta Ku, Tokyo on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June

23rd through 25th. I will be assisting Mr. Kamita. Hope we can do it with bigger scale

in the future not just depending on devoted individuals.

Leeward Oahu Kendo Tournament will be on Sunday, June 26th this year. It will start at

8:30AM at Mililani District Park Gym, 94-1150 Lanikuhana Avenue Mililani. From our

club 6 kenshis will be participating. Do your best and enjoy the tournament. A kendo

equipment company will be there for your equipment needs.

It is not too late to enter Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation Women’s Tournament on

Saturday. July 16th. We would like to support the tournament by participating from

Hawaii. Let me know soon, ladies, if you can participate and see Murayama Chinatsu

Sensei from Saitama there.

On April 24th at Kaimuki practice, Eijo Ikenaga Sensei stopped our practice after two

kirikaeshis. He said that only person doing kirikaeshi correctly was Wesley Fujimoto

and had him demonstrate it. Wesley was good. We often consider that kirikaeshi is just

one of warm up rituals. Kirikaeshi contains kendo important fundamentals such as

tenouchi, hasuji, kiai, maai, proper okuriashi and ki-ken-tai in harmony. Inoue

Kazuyoshi Sensei of Fukuoka tells us that he intentionally demonstrates his kirikaeshi

often in front of his students to show the proper way of doing it.
