Congratulations to Mr. Yoshinori Imagawa who passed 3 Dan examination on Sunday, May 20th. He may be relieved a little because his daughters are catching up with him in kendo.

Our club normally do shiai and shinpan practice on last Wednesday of even number month. However, in June because of Leeward Oahu Tournament, we decided to have one on Wednesday, June 13th. Everyone even from other dojos is invited.

We do not have our practice on Wednesday, June 20th. Wahiawa Hongwanji Mission has Bon Dance in that weekend. The hall is needed for staging area. They will be asking for volunteers to help during Bon Dance days. If you can, be volunteers for them.

Sasaki Hiroshi Sensei, Kyoshi 7 Dan from Akita, with his wife Keiko Sensei will bring with them two gentlemen, Mr. Hisashi Matsuhashi and Mr. Hiroomi Watanabe, both 6 Dan when they visit us from June 22nd through 29th. They will visit our club on Wednesday, June 27th. Please come and join our practice.

Leeward Oahu Kendo Tournament is on Sunday, June 24th at Mililani District Park Gym from 8:30AM. So far from our dojo, participants are Shoshi Hashimoto, Jessica Sneed, Cathleen Okabe-Hutchins, Kojun Hashimoto, Marvin Acklin and Iwao Sato. Let me know if other our club members want to participate before the entry deadline of June 10th. We are honored to have Sasaki Hiroshi Sensei accepted Chief Shinpan position of the tournament. I will be assisting him. Also, originally two kendo equipment companies were coming. But one of companies cannot come due to their scheduling conflict. If you need help with kendo equipments, go and ask the company there.

Group of kendo gentlemen from Toyokawa, Aichi Prefecture, are coming to Hawaii. They are Hikida Tetsuyuki Sensei, Natsui Yoshihisa Sensei, Makino Takao Sensei, Matsui Tadahiro Sensei, Sugiura Masato Sensei, Takagi Yoshito Sensei, all 7 Dan, and Mr. Makoto Yoshida, 3 Dan. They will be at Kaimuki Honbu Dojo on Sunday, July 1st and Kenshikan Dojo on Tuesday, July 3rd. It is a rare occasion to have this many high rank senseis come together in Hawaii. Do all possible to come and get practices from them.

Inoue Kazuyoshi Sensei, Kyoshi 7 Dan of Fukuoka, is coming to town from July 6th till 16th. As you know, he is a super good sensei and repeat visitor. He is visiting our club on

Wednesday, July 11th. Everybody is invited to practice at our dojo.

A person from Hawaii is visiting Japan and practicing kendo there for a while now. She met a sensei there who told her that he had visited Hawaii over 20 year ago and was welcomed by then President Dr. Akagi and others. He told her that he received Thank You Note from me for coming and practicing in Hawaii which I no longer remember. Because of the hospitality he received in Hawaii, she has been quickly accepted and treated warmly. It has been Hawaii Kendo Federation’s tradition to receive visitors with Aloha, warm welcome and keep friendship with them. Let us keep our good tradition so that we can have more visitors.
