Congratulations to Shoshi Hashimoto who came in 3rd in Yudansha 1 - 2 Division where he had to face much experienced opponents in Leeward Oahu Kendo Tournament on Sunday, June 24th. He also beat his father in well-fought match in Parents-Children Team Matches with 2 to 1 point margin when Children’s Team overwhelmingly beat Parent’s with 5 wins and 0 loss with 1 tie games. Iwao Sato won 2nd place after losing to Mr. Jimmy Eitoku, 16 years his junior and 2014 US Mainland Senior Individual Champion. Iwao Sato is determined to practice hard to rematch with him next chance for revenge. He felt more so because Hawaii’s own Yukimasa Furutani Sensei beat Mr. Eitoku in Team decision match.

Sasaki Hiroshi Sensei of Akita brought his lovely wife, Keiko Sensei and two other gentlemen, Matsuhashi Hisashi Sensei and Watanabe Hiroomi to Hawaii. They practiced everyday from the day they arrived and the day before departure. He had retired from his teaching job. He majored Physical Education specializing in Kendo at his University. Ever since he graduated, he has been involved in teaching kendo and keeping himself updated with changes and new procedures. His teaching points out individual’s faults and gives good, timely advices. We are hoping that they continue to visit us to teach. Thank you, Sasaki Sensei.

It is very rare and lucky to have 6 7-Dan Sensei's and 1 3-Dan person from Toyokawa, Aichi visit Kaimuki Honbu dojo on Sunday, July 1st and Kenshikan Dojo on Tuesday, July 3rd. They are Hikida Tetsuyuki Sensei, Natsui Yoshihisa Sensei, Makino Takao Sensei, Matsui Tadahiro Sensei, Sugiura Masato Sensei, Takagi Yoshito Sensei, all 7 Dan and Mr. Makoto Yoshida, 3 Dan. Please welcome them and join the practice with them.

Though Wednesday, July 4th is a National Holiday, Independence Day, we have our regular practice at Wahiawa Dojo with regular time 7 - 8:30PM. Please come and join our practice.

We are happy to have Inoue Kazuyoshi Sensei from Fukuoka visit us in Hawaii from July 6th till 16th. Though his practice schedule has not been disclosed yet, we know that he is coming to our practice on Wednesday, July 11th. You are invited to join us with special practice hours.

We are going to have midyear party on Wednesday, July 11th when Inoue Kazuyoshi Sensei is visiting us. We start 30 minutes earlier at 6:30PM and end at 7:30PM. Then, we will have a pot-luck party. Please come even if you have not been coming to practice for a while. You can renew your friendships.

Also visiting is Mr. Tsutomu “Tom” Fukuda and Family from Seattle. I urged him to join us on our midyear party day.

A Honolulu attorney who does kendo has been taking young kendo persons into his office and having them do some office work. Thus, he exposes them glimpses of real world and helps them financially a bit. These young ones under this attorney’s guidance and supervision develop high work ethics and become responsible and contributing citizens. We should follow this attorney’s footsteps. Keep in mind that we are developing young ones as well as ourselves through practicing kendo together.
